Thank you for purchasing Space Quest IV CD. This file
includes information on memory requirements, recommendations,
and any errors (as if!) found in this version of Space Quest IV.
Also included are notes on TSN (the exciting new network for your
PC) and demos of some of our newest products FREE on this CD!!!

Note:

You may play your Space Quest IV CD directly from the CD
by typing SQ4 [parameter] from your CD-ROM drive where
[parameter] is one of the following configurations:

SB = SoundBlaster sound & audio
     MT  = MT-32 sound/SoundBlaster audio
PRO = ProAudio sound & audio
STD = Standard PC speaker sound/SoundBlaster audio
THN = ThunderBoard sound & audio
GEN = General MIDI sound/SoundBlaster audio

This option will not write anything to your hard disk, but
you may experience an increase in the frequency of audio
cutouts and a general slowdown due to the significant amount
of CD ROM access. This will be more noticeable on slower CD ROM
drives and on slower 386 based systems.

Memory requirements:

The minimum amount of conventional memory needed to run
SQIV is 580k or 594,000 bytes. If you do not have enough
free memory, you may wish to select the "Make a Boot
Disk" option from the INSTALL main menu.

Recommendations:

If you experience audio cutouts during the game you might need
to alter the audio buffer size of the MSCDEX driver located in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. You can do this by adjusting the
/m:AUDIOSIZE parameter. We recommend that this value (AUDIOSIZE)
be set to at least 10. If you experience slow movement or audio
cutouts consistently, you may wish to lower the size of this buffer.

Errata:

  Joystick and Keyboard Players
The information under the heading, "Please Note:", on page 13 of
the Space Quest IV manual is incorrect. Please refer to page 10
for keyboard information and page 11 for joystick information.

  Keyboard Players
To move the cursor via the keyboard in smaller increments than is
described on page 10, hold down the SHIFT key when pressing an
 arrow key.

  ProAudio 16
If you own a 16 bit ProAudio, use the SoundBlaster audio driver.
The ProAudio audio driver is ONLY for the 8 bit ProAudio card.
For midi sound, use the ProAudio driver for both cards.
