                          FUTURE WARS
                       Adventures in Time

REQUIREMENTS
Future Wars CD-ROM requires an IBM/Tandy or 100% compatible
with a CD-ROM drive and 640k. A mouse is suggested.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Future Wars can be played off of the CD-ROM, but we suggest
copying the files to the hard drive for better performance.
1. Make a directory on your hard drive (for example, "MD
   C:\FW" at C:).
2. Copy all of the files from the Future Wars subdirectory on
the CD-ROM to the subdirectory on your hard drive (for
example, "COPY S:\FW\*.* C:\FW" if your CD-ROM drive is
   S:).
3. The files should be copied over to the hard drive.
Whenever you want to play Future Wars, you will need to
put the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
4. You will need to configure the program to your system.
From the FW subdirectory on the hard drive, type INSTALL
and press Enter. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. When you are finished installing, exit to DOS and type FW
   Enter to start the game.

GAME SYSTEM
"Future Wars" uses the Cinematique system. This is a new game
system which is entirely mouse-controlled and is designed to
make the game as user-friendly as possible.

Moving the Hero
The character you are playing moves across the screen as you
direct it. To move him, point the mouse cursor where you want
him to go and press the left-hand button. Your character will
stop on the way if an obstacle blocks his path. All you have
to do is designate a different spot which will enable him to
move around the obstacle.

The Activation Menu
Through the hero, you can take a wide varity of actions using
the very simple activation menu. The activation menu is
displayed when you press the right-hand button of the mouse.
Move the menu bar to the chosen action and press the left-hand
mouse button.
You can take the following actions:

EXAMINE: Enables you to obtain more details about an object
in your enviroment. When the mouse cursor becomes a +,
choose the object to be examined and press the left-hand
button. Note: Juse as in real life, your character will
not be able to see some of the details if he is too far
away from the object he is looking at.

TAKE: Used when you want to collect objects that seem useful.
When the mouse cursor becomes a +, choose the object to be
taken and press the left-hand mouse button. There is no
limit to the number of items you can carry in your inventory.

USE: Allows you to take an action using an object in your
inventory to affect an object or person in your enviroment.
For example: You have a key which you want to use to open a
door - USE KEY on DOOR.
When the cursor changes into a +, select the object you want
to use from the list, then click on the object or person it
  is to be used on.

OPERATE: Lets you take action on an object or person.
For example: To press a button - OPERATE BUTTON. To dig in
  some rubble - OPERATE RUBBLE.
When the cursor changes into a +, select the object on which
you want to take action and press the left-hand mouse button.

SPEAK: Allows you to speak to another person. When the mouse
cursor changes to a +, indicate the person to whom you wish
to speak and press the left-hand mouse button.

The User Menu
This menu offers functions which are not part of the game
itself, but will allow, for instance, you to save and load
your game sessions.
You can access this menu by press both the left and right hand
mouse buttons at the same time.

PAUSE: The is paused when this is selected.

RESTART: Enables you to restart from the session again at the
  very beginning.

BACKUP DRIVE: Use for indicating to the program which disk
drive you want to use for your save and load games. You
cannot save a game to the CD-ROM drive. You can save to
the hard drive or a floppy disk.

LOAD: Continue playing a game you have previously saved. When
the program asks you to insert the backup disk, the list of
saved sessions which are on the backup diskette will be
displayed. Move the mouse on to the name of the session to
  be loaded and confirm.

SAVE: Saves your current session so you can restart from the
same place at a later time. A catalog containing the list of
sessions already saved will be displayed. Choose a free
spot (or replace one of your currently saved games), type in
  a name and confirm.
Note: You can save your game as often as you like, and as long
as the hero is still alive. We advise you to do this often!
Especially when you are about to do something dangerous!

ADVICE TO NEW PLAYERS
If you are playing an adventure game for the first time, here
are a few suggestions.

  * Carefully examine all the objects on the screen at every new
point in the game. Some of the objects are very small!

  * Move as close as possible to the objects you are examining
because no one is infallible and our hero may only see some
of the fine details if he looks at an object up close.

  * Read the messages displayed very carefully. They will often
give you clues on how to continue your mission.

  * Use every opportunity you can to take action.

  * Talk to everyone you can.

  * Most objects you can examine in the game have a purpose.
Try operating them or using various items on them.

  * Save your game as soon as you sense danger. It's a lot
easier to start from a save game then it is from the beginning
of the game when something bad happens to you.

  * If, in spite of all this, you find yourself stuck at any
point in the game, check to see wheter you have forgotten
an object or if you have forgotton to do something earlier on...
