How To Report A Bug To Hercules

  Before You Begin
  ----------------

  I. DO YOU HAVE THE CORRECT OS/2 2.1 DISPLAY DRIVER FILES?

This documentation supplement is for AGX015 graphics
accelerator-based Hercules Graphite products as listed
  below.

If you have an AGX014 graphics accelerator-based Hercules
Graphite Card with 1MB VRAM (Model HG210 for the ISA bus),
STOP! Instead, you will need to download the file
  OS2141MB.EXE from the BBS.

Please confirm from the following list that you are using
the correct OS/2 2.1 display driver files for your AGX015-
  based Hercules Graphite product:

  BBS Filename Graphite Model Description
  ------------ -------------- -----------

  OS2G1496.EXE HG310 Hercules Graphite Pro 1MB
  OS2G1596.EXE HG510 Hercules Graphite VL (1MB)
  OS2G1596.EXE HG610 Hercules Graphite VL Pro 1MB

  OS2G1596.EXE HG420 Hercules Graphite Pro 2MB
  OS2G1596.EXE HG720 Hercules Graphite VL Pro 2MB

  II. BEFORE YOU INSTALL...

If you are installing OS/2 for the first time with an AGX015-
based Hercules Graphite product installed in your system,
proceed to the section titled "Installing OS/2 2.1 With Hercules
  Graphite."

If OS/2 is already installed with a VGA-compatible video card
other than a Hercules Graphite product and you are getting
ready to replace the video card with an AGX015-based Hercules
Graphite, you must first perform the following steps:

  1. With your existing VGA-compatible video card installed in
your system, make sure that OS/2 is installed and running
with a VGA display driver. If this is not the case, refer
to the OS/2 2.1 Installation Guide for directions on
running the DSPINSTL procedure to select a VGA display
      configuration.

  2. Follow the directions contained in the section titled
"Installing the Hercules Graphite OS/2 2.1 Display
Drivers." Perform these steps BEFORE installing the
Hercules Graphite board in your system.

Installing OS/2 2.1 With Hercules Graphite
  ------------------------------------------

These instructions assume that OS/2 2.1 is NOT already
installed on your system. If OS/2 2.1 is already installed
and running, please proceed to the section titled
"Installing the Hercules Graphite OS/2 2.1 Display Drivers."

If you are installing OS/2 2.1 for the first time to your
system with an AGX015-based Hercules Graphite product,
please follow the steps contained in this section carefully
so that the OS/2 can be installed with less time and effort.

Note: If you are formatting your hard drive with the FAT file
system, you will need to have a DOS Boot-up Diskette.

  1. Place the OS/2 Installation Diskette into drive A: and
boot the system from this Installation Diskette.

  2. IMPORTANT: As the installation process continues, you
will be prompted to insert the OS/2 Diskette 1 into
drive A:. Proceed with the onscreen prompts and continue
to install from the OS/2 diskettes until the following
message appears onscreen after a few minutes:

"The hard disk preparation is complete, the next
step will be OS/2 system configuration.

Remove the diskette from the diskette drive.

Press the Enter key to start OS/2 system
	 configuration."

STOP! At this point, do NOT press the [Enter] key!
Instead, select one of the following instructions based
      on your hard drive format:

      A. IF YOUR HARD DRIVE IS FORMATTED WITH THE FAT FILE
	 SYSTEM:
Remove the OS/2 diskette and insert a DOS Boot-up
Diskette. Press [Enter] so the system can boot from the
diskette, not the hard drive. If pressing the [Enter]
key does not have any effect, press your computer's
reset button or use the [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] key
	 combination to reboot.

      B. IF YOUR HARD DRIVE IS FORMATTED WITH THE HPFS FILE
	 SYSTEM:
You must boot to OS/2 from a diskette. To do this, insert
the OS/2 Installation Diskette into drive A: and boot the
system. When prompted, insert OS/2 Diskette 1 and press
[Enter]. When the first menu appears from OS/2 Diskette
	 1, press [Esc].

Note: This step is very important because you will need to
install some AGX015 driver files before OS/2 starts for the
      first time.

  3. Once you have booted from a diskette, you will see the DOS
      prompt A>. Insert the AGX015 OS/2 2.1 Display Driver
Diskette into the drive A: (or drive B:) and type:

	 x:\agx15_2\unpack * y:\os2\install

where x: is the floppy drive letter
where y: is the hard disk drive letter

	 For example: a:\agx15_2\unpack * c:\os2\install

  4. When the AGX_INS file copying routine is finished, remove
the diskette from drive A: (or drive B:) and reboot OS/2
from the hard disk to continue the installation.

  5. As the OS/2 installation continues it will display the
current system configuration. If OS/2 shows the Primary
Display as "Extended Graphics Array" (XGA), change it to
      "Video Graphics Array" (VGA).

  6. IMPORTANT: Proceed with the installation until the
      following message appears:

"OS/2 Setup and Installation is complete

Remove the diskette from drive A:

Press Enter to restart you system."

STOP! As in Step 2, do NOT press the [Enter] key! Instead,
select one of the following instructions based on your hard
      drive format:

  8. Once you have booted from a diskette, you will see the DOS
prompt A>. Insert the AGX015 OS/2 Display Driver Diskette
into the drive A: (or drive B:) and type:

	 x:\agx15_2\unpack * y:\os2\dll

where x: is the floppy drive letter
where y: is the hard disk drive letter

	 For example: a:\agx15_2\unpack * c:\os2\dll

  9. When the AGX_DLL file copying routine is finished, remove
the diskette from drive A: (or drive B:) and reboot the
system from the hard disk. OS/2 is now installed with
      "VGA" as the Primary Display.

To select a Hercules Graphite display configuration, proceed
to the next section titled "Installing the Hercules Graphite
  OS/2 2.1 Display Drivers."

Installing the Hercules Graphite OS/2 2.1 Display Drivers
  ---------------------------------------------------------

These instructions assume that OS/2 2.1 is currently installed
and operating with a VGA display driver.

  1. Boot OS/2 and verify that all features of OS/2 are running
      OK.

  2. Place the AGX015 OS/2 2.1 Display Driver Diskette into
      drive A: (or drive B:).

  3. Open the OS/2 Window contained in the Command Prompts
folder. Change the current drive to drive A: (or
drive B:), then at the OS/2 Command Prompt A> :

      A. IF THERE IS ANY VERSION OF AGX OS/2 DRIVERS ALREADY INSTALLED:

	 type:

	 DEL C:\OS2\INSTALL\AGX*.DSC
	 COPY *.DSC C:\OS2\INSTALL

	 or

	 DEL C:\OS2\INSTALL\AGX*.DSC
	 COPY *.DSC D:\OS2\INSTALL

      B. IF YOU ARE INSTALLING AGX OS/2 DRIVERS FOR THE FIRST TIME:

	 type:

	 COPY *.DSC C:\OS2\INSTALL

	 or

	 COPY *.DSC D:\OS2\INSTALL

  4. Begin the display driver installation program by typing:

	 DSPINSTL

Note: This program is in the \OS2\INSTALL sub-directory.

  5. When DSPINSTL starts, check "Primary Display" and click
on "OK" to change the display driver.

  6. Scroll down to "Hercules AGX014/AGX015..." Select
the 640x480x256 mode for your Hercules Graphite
      product and click on "OK."

  8. Click on "Install..." and the new drivers will be
installed. If the AGX015 OS/2 2.1 Display Driver
Diskette in on drive B:, click on "Change" then click on
      "Install".

  9. When DSPINSTL is finished, click on "OK."

  10. Shut down OS/2.

If an AGX015-based Hercules Graphite product is installed
in your system, simply reboot the system to run the
display driver that you just installed.

If a VGA-compatible video card other than Hercules Graphite
is still present in your system (as noted in the section
titled "Before You Begin"), turn off your system and replace
the video card with an AGX015-based Hercules Graphite
product. When you start your system, OS/2 will run the
display driver that you just installed.

  11. Look at the field CRTFILE of file "HGVMON.DAT" in this floppy
diskette and figure out the name of .CRT file for your monitor
(ex. HGV48.CRT). Copy that file from the subdirectory CRT of
this floppy diskette to replace \OS2\MYSCREEN.CRT.
(Remember: this file has to be renamed as MYSCREEN.CRT)

  12. Run DSPINSTL again, and this time select the desired resolution
for 1MB memory configurations. When being asked whether want to
overwrite MYSCREEN.CRT, choose NO to continue.

  13. Click on "OK", shut down OS/2 and reboot the system again.

  14. When OS/2 is up, you can use ADJUST.EXE included in this diskette to
adjust your monitor timing if it is not well set. Since ADJUST.EXE is
a MS-WINDOWS program, you must invoke WIN-OS2 or seamless WINDOWS
before running it. After you adjust and save the new parameters, you
have to reboot the system again to take effect for OS/2 screen.
