3. Installation

These drivers can only be used under OS/2 WARP Version 3 and 4.

To guarantee a successful installation, be sure to have the
original VGA driver installed and active.

3.1 Restoring the original VGA driver

Use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and reset
the primary display to VGA. Consult your OS/2 manual
        for further information.

You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect.

3.2 Installation of the ELSA drivers version 01.19:

Insert your ELSA CD into your drive, open the CD-ROM
drive object on your desktop, change to the OS/2
directory appropriate for your graphics card
        (i.e., \WINNER\2000AVI\OS2) and start SETUP.EXE.
The contents of this file should appear on the
        "Introduction" page.

3.3 Using the setup program

On the "Adapter Info" page you may view information about your
graphics adapter. Use the "Help" function for detailed
        explanations of the displayed items.

You will have to specify your monitor and the desired graphics
        resolution on the "Resolution" page.
Please be sure that the information concerning your monitor is
correct and complete (particularly the scan rates) in order to
        avoid damaging your monitor.
After you have selected resolution and monitor you have to
set these parameters by pressing the "Set" button.

If the standard resolutions are not sufficient for your
purposes or if your monitor is not listed in the monitor
        database, press the "Add" button.
You will then be able to define custom resolutions and
        monitor-parameters.

Use the "Installation" page to select the files to transfer to
your hard disk and to start the installation process. Use the
"Help" button in order to get further information. After
completion of the installation you have to shut down and reboot
your system. OS/2 WARP will start with the selected resolution.
If you have specified the "ELSA Resolution Manager" in the
installation procedure, you can use it for changing the
        selected resolution.

           - WINMAN.MON

4.3 WIN-OS/2 Configuration:

To change the standard configuration, use the Windows program
WINman which is automatically started after first calling
WINOS2. An online help is available.

By default, the ELSA Windows Driver WINNER08.DRV is installed
        with a resolution of 640x480x256.

The WINNERxx.drv files (in WINDOWS) are copied to the WINOS/2
directory during the installation. You don't have to copy and
expand this driver from the GUI-disk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Caveats / Known Problems

6.1 WINOS2

With some monitors, you can't use a refresh rate different
from that of the WPS. In this case you will see a black screen
(or something else) in the WINOS2 Session.

ELSA graphics WINOS2 and Seamless Driver:
Use only the WINNERxx.DRV OS/2-Driver Disk. These files are
        copied by the installation utility.

6.2 Lotus 1-2-3 f. OS/2 Vers. 2.0
Lotus 1-2-3 only runs in 8 BPP modes.

6.3 Software and Color Cursor

For the following configuration no software cursor is
        available:

        2 MB Video RAM:
           1600 x 1280 x 8 BPP
        Work around:
           Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 8 BPP

        4 MB Video RAM:
           1600 x 1280 x 16 BPP
        Work around:
           Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 16 BPP

        8 MB Video RAM:
           1600 x 1280 x 32 BPP
        Work around:
           Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 32 BPP

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

7. EnDIVE

You can use the "ELSA EnDIVE Filter" tool for setting and
        viewing various parameters of EnDIVE.

The "Video Memory" display informs you about your usage of the
        free offscreen memory.

For testing purposes or when using programs with faulty EnDIVE
support you can switch off EnDIVE entirely (this has to be
done before starting such programs) and control the use of X
        and Y filters.

7.1 X and Y filtering

These filters improve image quality for scaled AVI movies.
The X filter interpolates the pixels in the horizontal
dimension and the Y filter does so in the vertical dimension.

Y filtering works only if sufficient off screen memory is
        available. Otherwise it is ignored.

The settings for the filters are done via the "ELSA EnDIVE
Set" tool. X filtering is set by default.

7.1.1 Prerequisites for Y filtering

        ELSA VICTORY 3D:
         not applicable

ELSA VICTORY 3DX, ELSA WINNER 1000/T2D:
the video vertical size is at minimum doubled

        ELSA WINNER 2000AVI/3D,
        ELSA WINNER 3000-M/-L:
the video vertical size is stretched by 2.8 or more

7.2 Common restrictions of the EnDIVE support

        Hardware video acceleration for the
          - ELSA VICTORY 3D
          - ELSA VICTORY 3DX
          - ELSA WINNER 3000-S/-M/-L
          - ELSA WINNER 2000AVI/3D
is only possible for one video at a time.
Additional videos will be replayed using software motion video.

fix: for best performance, finish one video before starting
             the next.

In addition, the selected screen resolution should leave
enough free video memory for storing a frame of the required
resolution. Again, if the driver cannot use the hardware
acceleration, it will revert to software motion video.

fix: choose a graphics resolution smaller than the available
             maximum.

When using these boards, hardware video shrinking will
not function properly in all cases. Therefor software motion
        video will be used.

The hardware video can be driven with max. 135MHz pixel
frequency. If the chosen video mode uses a higher pixel
        frequency
software motion video will be used.
We recommend video playback at a resolution of 1024x768. With
this resolution the hardware video acceleration can be used in
any colormode with high refresh rates.

In some cases/graphic-modes (ELSA WINNER 3000-S/-M/-L and
ELSA VICTORY 3D) the hardware needs a minimum stretch factor
(size of source image / size of video window) to work. In case
of the actual stretch factor being less than the minimum factor
software motion video will be used.

7.3 To use the hardware support of the DIVE interface, you must
have 64MB of address space available in your system. This is
determined and configured by the driver. A failure will occur
if any of the following conditions holds:

           a) PCI BUS computer:
                - more than 4031MB of address space used already
                  unlikely.
                  fix: none available
                - older system BIOS (non PCI-conforming)
fix: place the following line into your CONFIG.SYS:
                       SET VIDEO_APERTURE=A00
This allocates the 64MB Video aperture at 2,5GB in
your address space. Be sure this does not conflict
with address space requirements of other cards you
                  use.
           b) V L Bus computer:
                - more than 64MB of main memory
                  fix: none available
                - BIOS assigned an invalid address
fix: add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:
                        SET VIDEO_APERTURE=40
This assigns addresses following the first 64MB to
                  your video board.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

8. Adjustments (CONFIG.SYS)

By use of the SET command in the CONFIG.SYS you can adjust
        some behaviour of the driver.

8.1 SET VIDEO_APERTURE=xxx

        see 7.3

8.2 SET ELSA_RESET=[H|L]

Use this to reset the selected resolution to one of these:

        H = 1024x768x8@75Hz
        L =  640x480x8@60Hz

This setting is valid as long as it appears in the CONFIG.SYS.

8.3 SET USE_SMALL_FONTS=[0|1]

To use the small icons in a high resolution mode.

1 = small icons should be used in a high res mode
0 = default icon size should be used.

Hint: The usage of this flag causes an incorrect display of
        the maximize window botton.

8.4 SET USE_FIXPAK17=[0|1] (only to use in conjunction with Warp 3.x)

Use this setting to avoid defective icons on a system with a
fixpak 17 and in a true colour mode.

        1 = fixpak 17 installed
        0 = no fixpak 17

8.5 SET TIM=........
This makes the video timing produced by WINMAN applicable to the
WPS. The driver takes the TIM line prior to the mode setting done
by the "ELSA Resolution Manager". However, it is lower in priority
        than the ELSA_RESET line.

8.6 SET XREFRESH=H
This forces OS/2 and DOS Full Screen Sessions into VGA high-refresh
text mode. It has the same effect as the DOS-Tool XFREFRESH.EXE.

This setting is only valid with the following graphics boards:
         - ELSA WINNER 2000AVI/3D
         - ELSA WINNER 3000-M/-L
