         True StartUp Sound for OS/2
         ---------------------------

         Freeware (see end of this file).

         OS/2 has a built-in startup sound. However, the sound requires
         the MMPM/2 overhead and is played only when the system is up and
         running.

         That's not startup!

         This OS/2 base device driver plays a startup sound on your
         Soundblaster card (or compatible) as soon as the OS/2 logo is
         displayed! Plus, it doesn't require the massive MMPM/2 overhead
         and randomly selects one out of six cool sounds. It does not
         interfere with MMPM/2.

         This software works on my Soundblaster Pro and Vibra 16 cards and
         has been tested on many PCs. However, I cannot guarantee anything
         and you will be using it at your own risk.

         Installation
         ============

         Put STARTUP.SYS into the \OS2\BOOT directory of your boot drive
         (or \OS2 if you are using OS/2 2.x).

         Add the line

            BASEDEV=STARTUP.SYS /SWITCHES

         to the TOP of your CONFIG.SYS (Mozart card users: Put it one line
         below your mozart.sys card enabler). The /SWITCHES are discussed
         below.

         Switches
         --------

            /P: Port address (default: 220)
            /D: DMA channel (default: 1)
            /I: Interrupt (default: 5)
            /V: Volume (default: 13)

         The volume switch is only supported if your Soundblaster card has a
         mixer.

         Examples:

           BASEDEV=STARTUP.SYS /V:15
           BASEDEV=STARTUP.SYS /P:240 /I:10

         Reboot. OS/2 will take care of the rest. Have fun!

         Licence
         =======

         Developing this driver has taken a considerable amount of time,
         especially getting OS/2 to do DMA in a base device driver.
         Despite of that, this software is free.

         However, if you (rightly) feel that you should donate some money
         or OS/2 development tools, please don't hesitate.

         My postal address is:                          Internet:

         Please do understand that I cannot answer any letters if you don't
         cover the return postage. E-mail is preferred, definitively.

         You might want to donate something to Amnesty International
         instead.
