                           Repackaged Crystal drivers
                          ============================

                             Released on 18.09.2004

                          Repackaged by Martin Kiewitz
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  ============
  | FOREWORD |
  ============

        The original Crystal drivers contain an evil installation DLL that
         modifies (w/o any need actually) config.sys. It also mangles around in
         WinOS2 and sometimes it backlevels CLOCK01/CLOCK02/TIMER0-system
         drivers. One of these bugs may cause a system to hang on boot.
         Especially the config.sys problem only occurs, if one line of
         config.sys contains more than a specific count of chars.

        So please note: the original archive did not mess ALL systems, but if
         you got your system a long time and THEN install it, it will mess it
         up, because your config.sys will be much larger than after a fresh
         installation.

        I build the new MINSTALL for eCS 1.2 and came across those problems.
         Instead of building some internal hacks into the new MINSTALL, I banned
         the original crystal drivers and redid the packages. They still contain
         CWINST.DLL, but it's not used anymore. This packages should also work
         under original IBM MINSTALL, but were not tested. Note also that IBM
         MINSTALL is *very* fragile and it crashes even on packages that
         contain one space too much (where in fact it shouldn't crash or even
         abort with an error message).

  | INSTALLATION |
  ================

         Just unpack all files from the archive to a directory of your choice.
          Now choose the package you want to install, go to that directory and
          run MINSTALL.

         You will find:
          Crystal 810/820 (PCI) in AC97 directory
          Crystal 4232/4236/4236B/4237B/4238B (PnP) in ISA\4231 directory
          Crystal 423x Mode 3 (PnP) in ISA\423x directory
          Crystal 4280/46x4 (PCI) in PCI directory

         NEVER ever run MINSTALL from one of the FILES directories. Those still
          contain the original unmodified packages and will mess your system
          (at least if you use the original IBM MINSTALL).

         MIDI should also work with those packages.
