=======
NOTICES
=======
1: OS/2 Warp (or OS/2 2.1 + the UN49407 MMPM CSD) must be
   installed properly before attempting the installation
   of the Audiotrix Pro.

2: If NO soundcard was previously installed, the procedure in
   the next paragraph is not necessary.

   As a general notice, before installing any new hardware
   that performs the same function as previously installed
   hardware, we advise you to de-install the hardware that
   will be replaced and double check the configuration files
   so that they do not contain any commands that would enter
   into conflict with settings added by the installation of
   the new hardware.

   Under OS/2, this involves the execution of the selective
   install utility to remove the old sound card (Tip: to
   remove a sound card, proceed as if you were installing
   the card for the first time and then, when prompted for
   the number of devices installed, choose 0. This will
   clean the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS and MMPM2.INI automatically).

   Under Windows, this also involves going into the "drivers"
   control panel and removing sound card related entries.

   Check with the documentation that came with the previous
   hardware to see what files were modified, how they were
   modified and what files were added, so that reversing
   the process does not become a guessing game.

=======================================
INSTALLING THE AUDIOTRIX PRO UNDER OS/2
=======================================
If you have received OS2KIT in .ZIP format, use UNZIP or
PKUNZIP (supplied on the Audiotrix Pro regular Setup Disk),
to decompress the content of OS2KIT.ZIP to a blank floppy
disk that you will label: Audiotrix Pro OS/2 Drivers.

There are two possible scenarios when installing the Audiotrix
Pro under OS/2.

A) You have never installed the Audiotrix Pro on your system.
   For example, you might be installing OS/2 Full Pack.

B) You have upgraded your DOS + Windows System to OS/2 Warp
   and the Audiotrix Pro was functioning well under regular
   DOS + Windows.

----------------------------
Performing OS/2 installation
----------------------------
To install device support, insert the Audiotrix Pro OS/2
Setup Disk in drive A: Start the multimedia installation
program, located in the Multimedia folder on the OS/2
desktop. Once you are in the Multimedia installation
program, select Source Drive A: and select the "Audiotrix"
icon after it appears.

When prompted to enter the number of devices installed, accept
the default value of 1 and press enter. When prompted for device
type, choose GENERIC from the drop down list, then choose
whichever settings you want for IRQ and DMA keeping in mind what
is installed on your machine. Mediatrix recommends IRQ 11 and
DMA 3 (for both playback and capture).

NOTE: Since support for full duplex (simultaneous record
& playback) has not been yet implemented for the
Audiotrix Pro under OS/2, please choose the same DMA
channel for both capture and playback.

The installation program will copy these files onto your
hard disk in the following subdirectories:

     \MMOS2\DLL\CARDINFO.DLL
     \MMOS2\DLL\BSAUDRES.DLL
     \MMOS2\HELP\BUSAUDIO.HLP
     \OS2\BOOT\CS31CONF.ADD
     \MMOS2\CSBSAUD.SYS
     \MMOS2\VCSBSAUD.SYS

The installation program will update the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS with
CS31CONF.ADD, CSBSAUD.SYS, and VCSBSAUD.SYS as follows:

     BASEDEV=CS31CONF.ADD /A:NONE /P:530 /I:11 /D:3,3
     DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\CSBSAUD.SYS /N:BSAUD1$
     DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\VCSBSAUD.SYS BSAUD1$

     Where C:\MMOS2 is the pathname to your MMOS2 files.

-------------------------------------
Performing DOS + Windows installation
-------------------------------------
You MUST quit any Windows application before performing the
installation.

1) Go to the Drives folder, click on A:\ (or whichever
   drive Audiotrix Pro Setup Disk is in) then click on
   INSTALLP.EXE

2) Choose to install all components (DOS & WINDOWS)

3) Let INSTALLP.EXE copy all of the files and start WinOS2.
   Once WinOS2 is started, it will configure everything
   automatically. If WinOS2 does not start automatically,
   simply start it manually by clicking on the OS/2 System
   folder. Then, from WinOS2, run x:\trxpro\setup\setup.exe
   where x is the drive where you chose to install the
   Audiotrix Pro files. At the end of the installation
   procedure, the "Audiotrix Setup Successful" window will
   appear. You will be prompted to exit Windows and restart
   your computer. Click on OK to close the Window and exit
   Windows.

4) NOTE: If you have purchased your Audiotrix Pro before
   May 1995, you will need to manually replace the file
   CS31BA11.DRV that was installed in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
   directory with the new CS31BA11.DRV supplied in OS2KIT.ZIP.

   Issue the following command if you are running OS/2 Warp
   upgrade for Windows users:

     COPY A:\CS31BA11.DRV C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CS31BA11.DRV

     Where A: is your 1.44 floppy drive and C:\WINDOWS is
     the pathname to your WINDOWS files.

   Issue the following command if you are running OS/2 Warp
   Full Pack:

     COPY A:\CS31BA11.DRV C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM\CS31BA11.DRV

     Where A: is your 1.44 floppy drive and C: is the drive
     containing WINOS2.

   Now at this point the installation is complete and functional.
   The next time you restart your computer, the digital audio
   and the Windows General MIDI sound setups should work just
   fine.

5) At this point, only the DOS hardware compatibilty of Sound
   Blaster and Roland MPU-401 have not been configured. This
   step will explain how to enable the DOS Sound Blaster and
   Roland MPU-401 compatibility on your Audiotrix Pro.

   Sound Blaster and MPU-401 hardware compatibility on the
   Audiotrix Pro only becomes active after the file TRXPRO.HEX
   has been loaded on the Audiotrix Pro. Under DOS, this
   function is performed by the -I switch of SETUPPRO that is
   inserted automatically in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.

   Version 2.45 and higher of SETUPPRO has a new "OS/2 friendly"
   switch called -X that does the same thing as -I (initialize)
   except that it does not try to initialize the CS4231 CODEC
   (because under OS/2, that job is done by the CSBSAUD.SYS driver
   installed in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS by the selective install
   process).

   Since the file TRXPRO.HEX only needs to be downloaded to the
   Audiotrix Pro once after power-up of the computer, it is not
   desirable to keep SETUPPRO in the DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT. Under
   OS/2, it would be preferable that SETUPPRO.EXE -X be invoked
   by the OS/2 STARTUP.CMD (the OS/2 equivalent of the straight
   DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT).

   Properly configuring this under OS/2 is quite simple, simply
   create a batch file called INITPRO.BAT containing the
   following lines by going into an OS/2 full screen
   session and typing the following:

   COPY CON C:\TRXPRO\INITPRO.BAT
   SET MEDIATRIX=C:\TRXPRO
   C:\TRXPRO\SETUPPRO -X
   EXIT

   Where C:\TRXPRO is the pathname where you chose to install
   the Audiotix Pro files

   Then press CTRL-Z

   After, to edit the file, issue the command:

   E.EXE X:\STARTUP.CMD

   Then add these lines to STARTUP.CMD

   /* REXX */
   CALL RXFUNCADD 'SYSLOADFUNCS', 'REXXUTIL', 'SYSLOADFUNCS'
   CALL SYSLOADFUNCS
   SAY Waiting 10 seconds for system sounds to clear up !
   CALL SYSSLEEP 15
   CALL SYSDROPFUNCS
   'START /FS /B C:\TRXPRO\INITPRO.BAT'
   'EXIT'

   Where C:\TRXPRO is the pathname where you chose to install
   the Audiotix Pro files and X: is the drive on which OS/2 boots.

   Save the file and exit from the E.EXE editor.

Installation is now complete.

==============================================
AUDIO CONCURRENCY ISSUES - OS/2, DOS, WIN-OS/2
==============================================
OS/2 MMPM/2 is designed such that, when an application is
running in the foreground (has focus), then that application
takes priority over others running in the background.
Background applications are put on hold until they are
placed in the foreground (have focus).

When you have a single audio device, the device cannot be
used by two programs at the same time. For example, if one
application has the device configured for audio playback,
and a second application also configures the device for
audio playback, the application with the focus takes
priority and the application in the background is placed
on hold. This situation also exists for sampling rate and
sample size configuration.

DOS applications do not participate in MMPM/2 resource
management. When DOS and Win-OS/2 sessions use the audio
device, all OS/2 programs are unable to access the audio
device.

Audio device drivers for Windows, installed under Win-OS/2,
attempt to use the audio device in all Windows sessions.
For Win-OS/2 sessions which do not use the audio device,
you can set the AUDIO_ADAPTER_SHARING property to "None".
This prevents the session from accessing the audio device,
and enables the device to be used by other applications.

To display OS/2 online documentation pertinent to Audiotrix
Pro OS/2 Business Audio drivers, use view.exe. Suggested
viewing items are:

                VIEW /AUDIO
                VIEW /MULTIMEDIA
                VIEW /SOUNDS
